DANCE STYLES

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

This is a Pre-school introduction to the world of dance.  Creative dance and tumbling are included in this 45-minute class. Stretching and movement encourage body and space awareness. Children are involved in group participation activities that enhance and develop rhythm and coordination skills. Creative Movement 1 is for 2-1/2 year olds to 4 year olds new to dance.

KINDER KIDS COMBO

     - Pre-K and Kindergarten dancers are introduced and review the basics of ballet and tap as well as fundamental locomotor skills, body control, musicality and discipline needed for future dance study. Creative exercises give young students an opportunity to express themselves and to put their learning to use.

BALLET

     - Ballet is the most demanding type of dance. All other forms of dance benefit from its precise execution of movement and artistic interpretation. These classes will help the young dancer develop balance, timing, strength, and creative expression. Students will also establish a foundation of proper form that will help prevent injury and establish the confidence necessary to move forward to other forms of dance.

TAP

     - Tap is the discipline that teaches dancers to use their feet as a rhythm instrument. Students in this class will learn footwork that helps to develop agility, musicality, and stylized movement. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.

JAZZ

     - Jazz places emphasis on contemporary technique, rhythm, and style. All classes begin with a warm-up using isolations, bending, and stretching exercises, followed by dance combinations of turns, kicks, leaps, and jumps.

MUSICAL THEATRE

     - Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

CONTEMPORARY

     - This is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

HIP HOP

     - Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves.

ACRO

     - Learn the basics or work on advancing your skills in this flexible Acro class! Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all at each student's individual level of experience.
